Tudor has launched a new vintage-sized dive watch, the Black Bay 54 “Lagoon Blue”, which is made for the beach. Paired with a “five-link” strap, the watch targets a different market with a relaxed color scheme – especially on the grainy textured dial – without losing the usual excellent specifications and value proposition of the Black Bay 54.
Initial Thoughts The standard Black Bay 54 has a 37mm case and utilitarian appearance, making it a great unisex choice, perfect for men who appreciate vintage proportions, women who want a dive watch without having to wear it, or someone in between. Tudor has definitely leaned more towards the feminine side in its marketing of the “Lagoon Blue” series, but given the popularity of the turquoise dial, this watch is sure to be another popular unisex watch.
The eagle-eyed will also notice the slightly reflective, grainy finish on the dial, which in itself is nothing new, but is noteworthy for a Tudor watch that traditionally features more plain dial surfaces.

New look aside, the Lagoon Blue is still a great value for the money. Considering its fine workmanship, high-spec movement, and micro-adjustable clasp, it’s hard to find a watch that can rival its $4,350 price tag, which alone is enough to make it a great value. Add in the Jubilee-style strap and the trendy colorway, and the Lagoon Blue is a very attractive watch.
Slow Life The brand says the Lagoon Blue is meant to pay homage to slow living, but it’s still a capable dive watch with luminescent hands, dial, and bezel dots, plus 200 meters of water resistance.
The original 37mm Biwan 54 was inspired by the Oyster Prince Submariner (Ref. 7922) introduced in 1954 as an affordable alternative to the Rolex Submariner. While it’s best known for being issued to French and U.S. Navy divers, its balance of price and performance also appealed to civilian divers.
While the first version released in 2023 featured a black dial that stayed true to the look of the vintage original, minus the anachronistic snowflake hands, the Lagoon Blue takes a different tack.
The “Lagoon Blue” dial has a bold texture that’s reminiscent of a beach, which works really well, and features a mirror-polished steel bezel inlay instead of the typical brushed aluminum.
Tudor swapped out the three-link Oyster bracelet for a Jubilee-style five-link one, while retaining the beloved “T-clasp” with an 8mm fine-adjustment window in five positions.
Inside is the MT5400 movement, which is used in both the Biwan 58 and 54 series. This is a high-performance movement with a "weekend-safe" 70-hour power reserve, a free-sprung balance and a silicon balance spring. In addition to being certified by the Swiss Official Observatory (COSC), each assembled watch also meets Tudor's more stringent daily error standards: -2/+4 seconds.
